"OBITUARY" The Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - ) 27 June 1930:
The Sorell municipality's oldest native-born resident has joined the great majority, in the person of Mrs. Emily Mary Reardon, long and familiarly known as Grannie Reardon, widow of the late Mr. Edward Lord Reardon, of Green Hills, Forcett, who predeceased her on January 12, 1911, at the age of 84 years. Grannie Reardon, for many years styled the Grand Old Lady of Forcett, and deservedly so, was a daughter of the late Mr. Lang, district constable at Sorell for some years, and was born at Sorell on May 21, 1832, the date of her birth being recorded in the register at St. George's Church, Sorell.
Her long and useful life was spent in the Sorell municipality, mainly at Green Hills, Forcett, where she died at the age of 98 years. When quite a girl, the home of her husband's brother (Mr. B. Reardon) at Forcett, where she was staying at the time, was stuck-up by the bushrangers, Kelly and Dalton, and she retained vivid memories of this unpleasant episode. Needless to say, her reminiscences would have made an interesting book. Her long association with the district she loved so well, from its virgin forest lands to its present progress in agricultural and pastoral developments, from the days of the ferries to the building of the Sorell Causeway, and the coming and going of the Sorell railway—all these, and more, had marked life's way for her in all its varying aspects, and served as milestones, so to speak, for nearly a century.
Of the deceased's family of four daughters and three sons, Robert pre-deceased her, having died in New Zealand about two years ago. Eva (Mrs. Wm. Grierson, Forcett), Kate (Mrs. J. Green, Hobart), Ethel (Mrs. L. B. Reardon (Bellerive), Nellie (Victoria), Frank (Green Hills, Forcett), and Sydney (Heemskirk) are the others. Included among her numerous descendants are 14 grandchildren and 28 great- grandchildren. Mr. A. H. Reardon (Warden of Sorell) is a nephew. Mrs. Reardon retained all her faculties to the last and was remarkably active up to within a few days of her last birthday. Of a genial disposition, ever-ready to help with kind word or deed, Grannie Reardon has gone to her long rest, dearly beloved by all within a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
