Hobart born Tim Bowden AM was a widely respected author, radio and television broadcaster and producer and oral historian who wrote the best selling biography ‘One Crowded Hour – Neil Davis, Combat Cameraman, 1934-1985’ (1987) and contributed to promoting Neil's achievements as a war correspondent and Sorell's significance to Neil's life and work.

In June 1994 Tim Bowden received an Order of Australia for services to public broadcasting and in May 1997 he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Tasmania.

A colleague and friend of renown war correspondent Neil Davis, Tim was an enthusiastic advocate for ensuring Neil was better known and commemorated in Tasmania, especially in his home town Sorell. Tim recorded a voice over for a promotional video for a Neil Davis Museum concept proposed for the historic Sorell Railway Carriage Shed. In 2017 he wrote an article about Sorell's influence on Neil's outlook and work for the Pitt Water Chronicles Vol 2, and in March 2024 joined Helene Chung and other former colleagues at Sorell to commemorate Neil Davis.

Tim Bowden's obituary by the Australian War Memorial notes he was vital in bringing fellow Tasmanian journalist Neil Davis’s personal objects and collection to the Memorial and donated the research, recordings and photographs that went into the writing of his biography One Crowded Hour.
